Hello Princess 😊
I finally got to meet you!
You were born yesterday, Friday 7th May 2010 at 2:12 PM weighing 3,615g and 50.5cm long. You are so beautiful! So here is the story...
On Friday at 12:30 AM my waters broke, prior to this, however, the day started off weird.
I got up with your dad about 9:00 AM, had breakfast, watched "I Dream Of Genie" and "Bewitched", had a shower, then went back to bed. I was tired as. I woke up at 2:30 PM!!!! Starving!!!
I ate 4 pieces of raisin toast and 4 pieces of regular toast with vegemite and could still eat. Your dad finished work really early and was home by 3:30PM. We watched a few episodes of "The Sopranos", had burritos for dinner and ice cream and strawberry topping...sorry, no ice cream, that was the night before!
I then coaxed your dad into driving me to Chadstone Shopping Center to buy his mum some towels for mothers day. I made the mistake of having a chocolate mousse martini and iced chocolate from Koko Black which was really rich, as soon as we left Chadstone, I regretted it and felt like I was going to throw up.
Your dad handed me the David Jones bag, and with the first left turn, he made I threw up tons into the shopping bag. It STUNK!
We ditched the now quarter full bag on the side of the Monash Freeway. My car now reeks of it, it was all over the seatbelt and everything!
We got home, I showered, we watched another few episodes of The Sopranos and at about quarter past twelve, I decided to go to bed.
I went to the toilet, then went to the bedroom to get unchanged, and as soon as I was about to get into bed, I heard a big POP and waters were dripping down my legs. Quick thinking made me grasp a towel that was at the end of the bed and got into the shower.
When I told your dad, he seemed really annoyed. By the time I had a shower and called Monash Hospital, your dad had fallen asleep on the couch!!!
On the way to Monash, the contractions had started at 4 minutes apart. I just wanted to desperately get to the hospital as quick as I could, but your dad had other plans. He wanted McDonald's! I couldn't believe it!
Once in the delivery suite, I had a lovely midwife Jo, and doctor something who told me you had pooed already so they needed to induce my labor.
The hormone drip went in and it didn't take long for the contractions to start getting strong. I was pretty annoyed that I was literally tied to the bed with a baby contraction monitor and a drip.
I was starting to get pretty sore. The doctor did an internal scan and I nearly cried. They pulled out before they had a chance to view my cervix, but my waters went EVERYWHERE! All over my clothes, the bed, the floor, it was GROSS!
The next internal I was in ALOT of pain, the contractions were really strong and were not giving me a break and I just needed to push. Your dad had slept through the whole thing, my contractions, the nurses and doctors swarming around me, me throwing up again!!!!
When he did finally wake up, it was good timing, because I really needed him. It really hurt!
The gas was making me feel really high and had taken the edge off the previous contractions, but during the transition, I couldn't handle it anymore and screamed for an epidural. It took ages for the doctor to put it in, but it was so worth it. It was amazing. I was in so much pain, but I was able to be completely composed during my contractions while he was putting the epidural in my back. I dared not move! It's amazing what the mind can do!
Once the epidural was mixed in with the gas, I was fine, back to smiles! Your dad pointed out that my contractions were reaching the 70s and I hadn't even felt it! It was great!
The last internal told me I was 5cm dilated. I couldn't believe it at all. All that pain and I was halfway!!! Fuck that! I don't know how people opt for a drug-free birth!!!
Once the epidural was in, I was able to rest for awhile. They turned off the hormone drip at 9:30 AM as my body started to make its own Oxytocin so I didn't have to be induced again which was music to my ears.
I lost a fair bit of time once the epidural was in, but as 12 noon they did another internal which didn't hurt at all and surprised me by saying I was fully dilated and they could feel your head. It was time to deliver you!
I had sent your dad to go get me a strawberry Big M and some butter menthols because my throat was so dry, so when he got back I was thrilled to tell him the news.
I tried to push you out for an hour but I was exhausted. I couldn't get you passed the bend, I was pushing you out and then I would breathe in, and you would rock back. I told Doctor Leigh, she was very nice that I needed some help so they called another doctor in and explained they would use a vacuum.
OMG that hurt!!!!!! It felt like the skin was just ripping like a newspaper, but luckily a couple of pushes and you were out! The doctor said I just had a small tear but she was stitching it up for awhile so I didn't believe her!
Your dad cut the cord which I was very surprised at, and we asked the nurses to clean you up before they put you on me.
When I heard you cry, I cried. I couldn't help myself, tears flooded down my face and I held back telling your dad that I loved him.
My first thought when I saw you was how beautiful you were, and hoped you really were and I was not biased!!!! But you are 😊
Your dad held you while I delivered the placenta and stitched me up, then I got to hold you for a while. You felt so heavy!
The epidural had started to wear off while I delivered you which was good because I had a fair bit of movement and sensation in my legs so I could feel when to push, but it didn't hurt. Because the epidural had started to wear off, I was able to get up and have a shower which felt great.
Before I knew it we were being pushed off to the ward. 52 South - bed 51.
Your first visitor was your dad's sister in law, then your dad's parents. It was good to see them, but I was so tired!
I breastfed you about an hour after you were born about 3ish, it was the weirdest feeling, and after your dad's family left, I fed you again. The Indian nurse was excellent, actually, every nurse and doctor that helped us has been delightful.
You had been such a beautiful content baby, no real grumbles, just very placid, then your dad left and you started playing up! You grumbled ALL NIGHT LONG, I had hardly slept at all. I fed you at 4am, then from 4:30 AM - 8AM we slept a little, everytime you would grumble I would rock your cot which seemed to work.
I'm exhausted, I'm going to get some sleep now!
Love you
Mum
